Is Your Restaurant Prepared for the Holiday Season?

As we approach the holiday season, we cannot help but think about all the restaurants in Texas. By jazzing up their menus with a few holiday favorites, restaurant owners will start to see a spike in business. From business parties to catering services, this season is sure to be a busy one. With the increase of business, it is important to remember a few important safety tips in the kitchen. The last thing you need is an accident that is not covered by restaurant liability insurance!

#1: Provide training. Make sure all incoming employees are properly trained on equipment and machines in the kitchen.

#2: Keep your knives sharp for the perfect cut. However, make sure your employees know how to handle the knife they are working with to prevent an injury.

#3: Keep it clean. If the kitchen is cluttered with spills all over the floor, there is surely going to be an accident. Make sure your employees clean up after themselves for everyone’s safety.

#4: Make sure food is fresh. Your ingredients should be fresh and of great quality. If not, a customer may fall ill with food poisoning.

#5: Change your gloves. If you go from working with pastries to a seafood dish, make sure you change your gloves. First, you would not want the taste or smell to rub off. Second, you never know who may have an allergic reaction.

Safety in the restaurant business is so important, especially around the holidays. To ensure a great holiday season, make sure you follow these tips. However, the unexpected is not completely unavoidable. If an accident does happen, it is best to have restaurant liability insurance. Our policy will cover: general liability, food spoilage, kitchen equipment, liquor liability, workers comp and much more.

Stay safe and enjoy your busy months!

The TOP 5 Reasons You Should Purchase Life Insurance

It’s week two of Life Insurance Awareness Month and we are just getting started! With so many people without life insurance, it’s crucial to speak about the importance of it. It should be a priority when looking into insurance and financial services. Texas residents, pay attention!

Here are the top 5 reasons why you should purchase life insurance:

#1: For your spouse. If you should leave your spouse behind, you leave them with less income. Without life insurance, your spouse may not make enough money to support the home or family anymore. This may result in the loss of home and possessions.

#2: For your children. If you should pass, your children will still want to go to college. Without life insurance, they may be denied that chance because of financial troubles.

#3: To cover funeral expenses. Without life insurance, you burden your family with funeral fees. That is the last thing they need during a time of grief.

#4: To pay off taxes and debt. Just because you have passed, doesn’t mean your debt will go away.

#5: You can personalize. Life insurance policies, such a term life, are able to fit your specific needs.

We take this month seriously at Dagley Insurance & Financial Services. Texas residents should too! Life is too short to have to worry about the unexpected. Trust us- you will feel much better knowing that your family is secure if something were to happen. Now go out and live your life!

Hurricane Safety: Prepare Ahead of Time to Protect Your Family & Home

With hurricane season quickly approaching we, at Dagley Insurance & Financial Services, want to ensure that our clients and the surrounding community are sufficiently prepared. By understanding what you can do before, during and after a potential hurricane, you can better ensure the safety of your home and loved ones.

Below you will find wealth of tips and safety advice from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA is an outstanding resource that can provide you with the most effective and reliable safety solutions. You can also learn what additional safety precautions, activities and projects people like you are implementing to help reduce and prevent the devastating impact of severe hurricanes.

Before a Hurricane Strikes:

  • Make plans to secure your property. Permanent storm shutter offer the best protection for windows; a second option can include boarding up your windows with marine plywood.
  • Install straps or additional clips to securely fasten your roof to the frame structure; this can help reduce roof damage.
  • Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed.
  • Clear loose and clogged rain gutter and downspouts.

During a Hurricane:

  • Listen to the radio or TV for information; keep a battery-operated radio ad back up in case electricity goes out
  • Turn off utilities if instructed to do so; otherwise turn the refrigerator or thermostat to its coldest and keep its doors shut
  • Turn off propane tanks, avoiding using the phone except in serious emergencies

After a Hurricane:

Recovering from any type of natural disaster typically takes a good amount of time; it’s not an overnight process. Safety should always remain your highest priority. It’s always a good idea to keep your insurance information handy and in a safe place—that way if you have questions, need help assessing damage or need to place a claim, all of the information needed is at your fingertips.

April: National Car Care Month

With the warmer weather and abundance of sunny days ahead of us—there’s a good chance that you are beginning to think about that long-anticipated vacation or annual road-trip. But while you’re caught up planning your spring activities or summer getaway, it’s essential that you take the time to properly prepare your vehicle.

It just so happens that April is National Car Care Month, and if you are not the kind of car enthusiast who loves checking every fluid level and air filter in your car, no need to worry—the Car Care Council has you covered.

Their comprehensive website provides quality advice and visuals that help put car maintenance into perspective for all car owners. Neglected automobiles can cause accidents or even result in an unfortunate breakdown on the highway, which is a hazard all in its own. Simple upkeep – such as monitoring tire pressure, periodically checking your battery and keeping up to snuff on transmission and brake fluids – can help reduce the risk of accidents as well as ensure that your car will last longer.

Just as important as the physical aspects of your vehicle is the need to protect your safety and your liability. Use April Car Care Month as motivation for you to review your current Texas car insurance policy. With an array of coverages including liability, medical, collision and comprehensive—you can provide yourself with a little piece of mind, knowing that you and those you love are protected while behind the wheel.
