‘Tis the Season to Child-Proof Your Home!

Before we know it, the holidays will be here! This is a great time for families and friends to get together and celebrate- all ages. To prepare your home for your small guests this season, it may be a good idea to child-proof your home. You wouldn’t want any accidents or injuries on your property to put a dent in your finances. Luckily, your Colorado homeowners insurance will be there as back-up, too!

#1: Hide your fragile pieces. Have an expensive vase in the family room? As nice as it looks, it is a good idea to put it away.

#2: Use the back burners. You will be doing an awful lot of holiday cooking, especially when family is over! If you can, use the backburners to avoid any grabbing or reaching from small passer-bys. If you need all burners, remember to turn the handles inward.

#3: Put the animals away. We understand, your puppy is a part of the family too! However, if any of the children are too rough, your dog may nip at them. The last thing you need is a dog bite!

#4: Stay covered. The holidays are usually a good time to increase your coverage. For extra protection, update your Colorado homeowners insurance with additional policies such as valuable articles and animal liability.

#5: Decorate wisely. Be sure to put all your fancy, glass, and expensive decorations at the TOP of the Christmas tree, where children cannot reach. If not, you can consider your favorite decoration shattered.

We realize that it is only the first week of November, but you can never start preparing too soon! Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before we know it; and those little ones will be running around the house.

If you are planning on updating your Colorado homeowners insurance, do it soon! It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially during the holidays!

Is Your Home in Fall Spirits?

The changing of the season is in full swing- fall is here! No matter where you live, it is always nice to prepare your home for the season ahead. If you haven’t done so already, now is a great time to decorate your home as well as update your Colorado homeowners insurance policy. You never know what the fall weather will bring!

Here are a few ideas to decorate your home for autumn:

#1: Break out the blankets. With the weather cooling down, it’s time to find the coziest throw blankets around.

#2: Change your color scheme. For a big change, you can always choose a new color for the walls! Warm colors such as burnt sienna and deep reds are great for fall. If you are looking for small changes, you can always find new accessories and accents to change the room’s vibe.

#3: Make an autumn wreath. The foliage is naturally beautiful- why not make a wreath out of it?

#4: Light a candle. Choose a fall scent such as pumpkin pie or apple crisp.

#5: Pick a pumpkin, or two! Pumpkins are the easiest and best way to decorate for fall. Whether you decide to carve it or not is up to you- they look great either way!

These are only a few ideas to get you started on your seasonal makeover. At Dagley Insurance and Financial Services, we believe that the changing of the season should come with a change of décor, as well as protection! Cooler weather can be harsh- especially on your home. Honestly, there is no telling what those windy nights will bring! Looking into your Colorado homeowners insurance is vital in order to make sure your home is properly covered. A typical policy will cover:  the structure of your home, replacement costs, additional living expenses, liability and personal possessions. Once your home is properly decorated and protected, you will feel at ease. Enjoy the rest of October!

What are Common Damages Associated with Slab Leaks?

As your Texas insurance agency, we believe that it is important for you to know all about your home and the damages that may come with it. Many times, your home will face simple damages such as a broken window, or even a leaky ceiling. However, some damages are not so easy to detect or fix! Yes, we are talking about slab leaks.

Here are a few signs that are sure to determine if you have a slab leak or not:

#1: Water spots on your floor. Obviously, water spots are a sure sign of slab leaks. If you notice any damp, moist or just plain wet spots, you should contact a plumber immediately. This means that the leak has reached your flooring, which can be damaging

#2: A settled foundation. You may feel a shift in your foundation, which is usually caused by a slab leak.

#3: Low water pressure. Does your showerhead seem to be softer than usual? A reduction in water pressure is a sign of a leak.

#4: A sudden change in your water bill. Oh great, a really expensive water bill! What gives? Unless you have started leaving your sinks on 24/7, it is mostly likely a slab leak.

If you begin to notice these changes in your home, it’s time to call a plumber. Slab leaks will cause water damage to your foundation and even your home- which is not a good thing! Once you hang up with your plumber, you better get your Texas insurance agency on the line! Thankfully, a typical home insurance policy will cover the physical structure of your home- just what you need.

how social media can save your insurance agency

Facebook, twitter, and other social media channels are becoming increasingly important to the business world. And yes, that even applies to the tepid, misunderstood, insurance world. If used correctly, facebook and twitter will help maximize your web presence, build your company an effective brand, and allow you to interact with consumers in a personal way.

All too often, business owners, especially insurance folks, assume it’s a “set it and forget it” deal. It’s not that way at all. Social media must be tended to often and executed correctly, or it will simply be a waste of time. Below I provide 4 suggestions for your agency, or business, which will help you beef up your social media presence and use it to your advantage.

  1. Create a page that is eye catching, unique, and speaks to your business brand. 99% (unofficial stat) of business pages on facebook and Twitter come in the form of blandness and monotony. Make your pages stand out and sing to visitors.
  2. Interact directly with your visitors and encourage participation. Hold a contest, take a poll, offer a discount, give them useful information, etc. Keep people coming back with interesting tidbits and personal incentives.
  3. Track your metrics. Metrics are a vital aspect to a successful web and social media presence. Understanding your company’s metrics will keep you informed of what works and what doesn’t. There are several programs for social media analytics management including webtrends.com and kontagent.com – or you can handle it on your own.
  4. Keep posts frequent, but not too frequent. In other words, don’t annoy your friends and followers.

I’m calling out to all insurance agents and business owners! Get with it! Use social media to your advantage or don’t use it at all. Social media is not a fad and the hype is very real. Get on board or get out of the way.
